October 6th - Felt Starlings Ornament

This week we are making Starling felt ornaments for the Winter Fair Children's shop.

In addition to the running and blanket stitch we will be using french knots in this project.

The instructions say to make one side bird and one side plain, but we will be making both sides birds. Make sure to make 2 mirror image birds to put together.

Tips:

1) Use a glue stick to position pieces before stitching

2) Note that the embroidery floss has 6 strands. Separating it and using 2 or 3 strands at a time will be easier to thread the needle and easier to get through the layers.

3) Note that the pattern we are using is a slightly enlarged version of the one provided by the designer. We've also integrated the tail into the body to have fewer parts to applique on.
