This week we are making felt bluebird ornaments for the Winter Fair Children's Shop. [see first picture below -- click to enlarge]

This pattern will be using a running stitch (straight stitch) and a blanket stitch for around the edges.

The instructions say to make one side bird and one side plain, but we will be making both sides birds. [see second picture below -- click to enlarge]

So, where the pattern says to cut out 1 blue body and 1 blue wing we will need 2 blue bodies and 2 blue wings.

Tips:

1) Use a glue stick to position pieces before stitching

2) Note that the embroidery floss has 6 strands. Separating it and using 2 or 3 strands at a time will be easier to thread the needle and easier to get through the layers.

3) I found it difficult to blanket stitch through all the layers the way that the pattern suggests. I found that trimming away some of the layers from the backside of the bird before sewing both birds together was helpful.
